Blackjack casino games don’t have as many features or gimmicks as free slots, but there are still several rule variants out there. Free blackjack is a great way to get accustomed to these while you perfect your strategy, either right here at Casino.ca or at one of our top Canadian online casinos.
Classic Las Vegas blackjack pushes you to make a better hand than the dealer. The goal is to reach a total of 21 with the opportunity to “hit” for new cards or to “stand” and play out your hand. You can also “split” a paired hand into two new hands, and “double” to bet and receive a single card. The basic Return to Player (RTP) of classic blackjack is up to 99.47%.
European rules have a few slight variations on classic blackjack. The dealer stands on a soft 17, and you can only double on hard total of 9 to 11. You may also double after a split. Because these rules are a little stiffer than classic Vegas customs, Euro blackjack has an RTP of 99.38%.
“Perfect Pairs” refers to the first two cards dealt to your hand. If these cards are the same value and suit, you’ve won a perfect pair, although off-suit and off-colour pairs are also smaller wins. Some online blackjack games give an instant payout for perfect pairs, but most treat it as a side bet that requires an upfront wager.
Free multihand blackjack titles allow you to bet and hit with multiple hands at once, as if you were playing on behalf of several players. This allows you to churn through hands much more quickly but also depletes the deck. Expect a similar RTP to classic blackjack games.
In “switch” rules, every player is dealt two hands and is allowed to swap the first cards from each hand. For example, if the hands are 6-K and A-3, you could switch cards for two final hands of A-K and 6-3. The other major difference is a dealer hand of 22 is a push, not bust.
Atlantic City rules are more forgiving for the player, as the dealer is only required to stand on a soft 17 or higher. The other major difference is the ability to “surrender” hands, in which you fold your first two cards and receive half your bet back. This can help soften your losses if you’re dealt a poor opening hand.
Spanish 21 uses Spanish 48-card decks, where all the 10-value cards have been removed from the deck. You will always win if you hit blackjack or 21, unless the dealer has a blackjack. There’s also the chance for “late surrender,” and more opportunities to double down.
Pontoon is a Spanish 21 variant originating in Australia, Malaysia, and Singapore. The game uses 48-card Spanish decks, with the dealer hitting on a soft 17 and not dealing themselves a face-down hole card. The latter rule makes Pontoon much more favourable to players, with an RTP of around 99.68%.

Free blackjack gives you the chance to:
Free games offer the perfect opportunity to practice your blackjack strategy. While there’s no way to guarantee wins, a well-versed strategy can increase your chances.
First, it’s important to know the basic rules of the game. Then, you can work to understand card values, get familiar with card counting, and learn how to respond to different scenarios.
Aim to beat the dealer by getting as close to 21 as you can, without going over. You will get two cards to start with, dealt face-up. You will only be able to see one of the dealer’s cards.
A hand made up of an ace and a “ten-card” is called a natural. If you have a natural and the dealer doesn’t, you will immediately win 1.5x your bet. If the dealer has a natural, they’ll collect the bets of all players who do not. If both you and the dealer have naturals, the player’s bet is a stand-off. You can take back your chips.
You can then choose to:
You can hit as many times as you like. However, you’ll go “bust” if your final total is over 21. In this case, you’ll lose, and the dealer will collect your wagered bet.
Once every player has been served, the dealer will turn their face-down card up. Their decisions are automatic on all plays:
Cards will then be continuously dealt until either you or the dealer overshoots 21. As a player, you must also avoid undershooting the dealer’s hand.

We recommend always doubling down on a total of 11. On a total of 10, double down unless the dealer has a ten-card or an ace. On a total of nine, you should online double down if the dealer’s faceup card is between two and six.
You should always split a pair of aces or eights. Do not split identical ten-cards, fives, or fours. As a general rule, twos, threes, or sevens can be split unless the dealer has an eight, nine, a ten-card, or an ace. You should not split sixes unless the dealer’s first card is between two and six.
